I was out the other night at a local restaurant, and I saw this old school sign that caught my attention. The goal was to give the place a nostalgic theme. In reality if this was this restaurants main selling point, people would stop and laugh at them. Color TV has been out for more than fifty years, and who thinks of TV as being in black and white. Sometimes the church is like this. We tend to focus on what worked to draw people in back in the seventies, while forgetting we are in the 2012. If we are not careful, the past will hold us back from the future. The church should be looking forward not behind. As Christians we are called to engage our world, while keeping the gospel forefront. We learn from the past to make the future better. The past can either build us up or hold us back. The choice is what you want to do with it.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 ESV
