Danger…do not swallow

  • Some warning make me wonder, and this one is no exception.  When I saw the part of the warning label on the back of a fishing lure I purchased recently, that said this products causes cancer and other issues; I thought to myself, who other than a fish would want to eat this?  I am sure someone out there practiced their fishing lure techniques on their little cousins while using a kiddie pool as a practice lake.  The problem with this warning is it assumes that someone out there will actually try and swallow a fishing lure.  I am sure someone out there will, but I know that wouldn’t.

I know we often mock goofy warnings.  One I always think of the warning on the back of Superman costumes, “this product does not give the wearer the ability to fly.”  While there and other warnings sound ridiculous, there are some warning in the book of Hebrews that cause the believer to beware.  The first warning the author gives is the most significant.

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. Hebrews 2:1 NLT

As Christians we are to pas close attention  to what we have learned on our journey of faith.  When we read the Word, listen to sermons, and learn through others life experiences we are called to pay attention and learn.  If we do not, then we will “drift away.”  We will start to feel distent from God, and will feel less connected to Him.  The best way to prevent this is to listen to what His Word has to say and act on it.

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. – James 1:22 NLT
