Keep It Cut

About two weeks ago I was “blessed” with something I had not had in almost 25 years, a double ear infection.  The thing about an ear infection is that it completely drains you of all energy, and you really don’t want to do anything.  I was already a few days behind in my yard work chores, and when this thing hit, I did not have it in me to get it done.  The thing about grass is when it rains, it grows even more.  In the last few weeks rain has not been lacking here in the Carolina’s.  So as the days went by, my grass grew taller and taller and taller.

When comes to grass being tall, I am not that worried about say the appearance of the yard, or even the city’s opinion of the yard (in Charlotte, if you don’t keep your grass cut they fine you).  The big thing I was worried about was critters.  I live in an older part of town, and I have a fairly large yard for being within the city.  When my grass is high snakes and mice find lovely refuge here.  The snakes tend to be an issue because of the kids, and the mice make their way to the nice and cool house.  I am not a fan of either one of those types of critters.  As long as I keep it cut, they stay away.

Our lives constantly needs to be taken care of.  One of the things that frustrates me is when I hear people talking about how they have it all figured out as Christians.  Some like to say that the preaching they hear in church is too elementary for them, but in reality it is what they need to hear.  To me, that is a sign of immaturity.  A mature believe acknowledges that there is always an aspect of their lives they can improve for Christ.  Just like the grass, we need to take care of it, not because of how we look, but because of what can come into our lives if we are not careful.

We need to always be looking for ways to be more like Christ.  I once heard Joyce Myers say, “When you go to church or read your Bible, you should change something.  It doesn’t have to be big, it can be a little thing.”  We are to always check ourselves as believers, and ask God to show us more of what is inside His Word.

I also enjoying cutting the grass.  What I usually do is put my headphones on and either listen to praise music or Scripture.  We should enjoy our time with God, and hearing from His Word.  It should be something that we enjoy taking the time to do.

Psalms 119:16 – I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.
